Canteen9’s Journey

There are many mistakes and sleepless nights along the way as we took our steps to deliver our brand and products.

We wanted to share that journey with our customers, one at a time. These are the traces of that journey. This is our story.

[Product Prescription]

Each product requires a process where main functional ingredients and supplementary ingredients tailored for each stage of children’s growth are combined into one. We followed the recommended amount for each age group and purpose, excluded anything that can be excessive to children and ingredients that are sources of concern.
We had to make it into chewable tablets or capsules so that children can enjoy it while addressing parental concerns for calories intake.
It was the same challenge with making food that is both healthy and delicious without sacrificing texture. It was difficult, but the goal was accomplished with the tremendous efforts by Byoung Yi Hwang, product manager, and the researchers at COSMAX Bio and Natural F&P.

[Package Design]

Our biggest challenge when designing the packaging was to make it more convenient for moms to handle it every day. How can we encourage kids to take the vitamins themselves? Getting 5-6 supplements every morning and evening, open them up, tally up the recommended dosage, and get kids to take them–this whole routine was a significant inconvenience for moms.

The most important thing for a functional health supplement is to take it consistently. What we devised was something novel in the health food industry. Packet-type doesn’t require parents to calculate the dosage and makes it easier to take with them on trips or outings without missing a dose. And it frees them up from worries about potential contaminations or changes that can happen when frequently opening and closing vitamin bottles. The sliding-type package lets parents place them on the table within reach of children, not high up on the shelves. This helps to create a routine where kids can take their daily packet of vitamins on their own and receive a “job well done” sticker. That means the box has to look good enough to be left on the tables, and we went through multiple tests to make sure that the hole is easy enough for kids to handle when sliding open the box.

[Package Quality Supervision]

Despite the new and difficult challenge we set for ourselves, we were able to achieve the material and color we wanted thanks to Mr. Young Rae Kim from Gomundang, who offered us the most preparation and feedback than anyone else.

[Packet Material]

We put a lot of thoughts into packets. Passing the Food Container Standards and Criteria tests was only the minimum for us because the packets were meant for children. We spent many hours researching and discussing with the master of packet materials, Woo Chil Jung, the senior director of Leader’s Pack. Conventional packets have hard edges that can cause injuries to kids. We made sure that the packets are soft enough to prevent such accidents while sturdy enough to keep the contents secure. We also tested different fabrics to find one that is easy for kids to tear. We will continue to improve our products with further tests and make products safe and convenient from the customer’s perspective.

[Production Quality Control]

COSMAX Bio, which produces Hey Noon, and Natural F&P, where Hey Mune and Hey Bone are made, are two major companies leading the functional health food research, development, and manufacturing. We conducted quality control at the two facilities located in Chungchungbuk-do. Canteen9 brand products were manufactured under strict hygiene and manufacturing standard. We worked hard to ensure the top quality of our products at every step until they are delivered to our customers.

[Canteen9 Warehouse]

It took us a lot of considerations choosing our warehouse because it’s where the functional health food we made for our children and family is to be stored. We made on-site visits to 8 candidates and selected the facility that guarantees optimal storage condition and quick customer response. It is a newly built, large facility with excellent temperature control. The storage is located on the second floor for clean, safe storage. We at Canteen9 strive to deliver you our products in their best condition.

[Brand Moodmode-Product]

We’d like to thank those who made designs and props that brought out our brand’s character: photographers Jae Hyoung Go and Hye Jin Lee.
